Pregnancy Signs and Symptoms

Pregnancy can occur any time a person has had sex.  Each woman is different and each pregnancy is different too. Some women will feel pregnancy symptoms within a week of conception while others may not know they are pregnant until they missed a period.

Early Signs and Symptoms of Pregnancy

In addition to a missed period, the earliest symptoms of pregnancy might include:

  • Nausea with or without vomiting.
  • Tender, swollen breasts.
  • needing to void urine more frequently
  • Fatigue and exhaustion
  • Food cravings, or strong dislike for foods that didn't disgust you before
  • Bloating and heartburn

Some other symptoms may be:
  • Slight bleeding or cramping.
  • Backaches
  • Headaches
  • Mood swings, feeling extra sensitive
  • Dizziness
  • Constipation.
  • Darkening of the area around your nipples known as the areola.

Many of these symptoms can be caused by other issues so it is important that you get a pregnancy test done as soon as your period has been missed.

Stages of Development

I was was conceived 7 weeks ago.

My heart began beating 21 days after conception. I already have eyes, nose, a mouth and tongue. My eyelids are now forming. My major muscle system have developed. I have my own blood type. It may be different than my mother's. One hundred thousand new brain cells are formed every minute. My heart is beating 140 to 150 times per minute which is almost twice as fast as yours. I am about an inch long all stretched out and I weigh only 1/4 of an ounce.

I was conceived 8 weeks ago

I can swim and gracefully move inside the protective amniotic sac. I now have every organ in my body. My stomach produces digestive juices and my liver makes blood cells. My kidneys are beginning to function and my taste buds are forming. My brain waves can be measured which shows I have thoughts. My heart is beating steadily. My body is sensitive to touch. I am about 1.5 inches long.

You can see my delicate feet and toes at 8 weeks. They are tiny and cute.

I am sensative to touch. If you try to touch me I will move away. I squint, swallow, frown and pucker up my brow. I like to stretch out.  I have tindy baby teeth forming in my gums. My finger nails and are showing now. My bones are beginning to harden. I like to suck my thumb. My sex organs have appeared.

My heart is almost completely formed now and resembles a smaller version of a newborn's heart. My main job now is to simply grow bigger and stronger until the day I am born.
